Good news, there's more!

A detail that somehow only occurred to me during my rewatch is that Anna didn't even start out with the pink princess dress that got pushed in the marketing but this other outfit.

The catch being, of course, that she spent the entire time under Dark Might & family's "care" for the majority of the movie up until the finale, so I guess she got dressed for the occasion. On that topic though.. Not to mention, she must've been living with the Gollinis for a while since she'd been abducted an unknown amount of time prior to the movie's events, which is. kind of a wild fact that has gone mostly ignored by the movie and the fandom so far?

The way that kidnapping happened was that Dark Might's crew was razing her family's estate to the ground and Dark Might, in a very classy manner, walked away through the flames with her thrown over his shoulder, uncaring of her screaming or the bodies left in the ruins.

Another thing is that her quirk, which made her the target of the mafia family in the first place, heavily amplifies a person's powers - if they're compatible - and it does that by physical contact, which is the main reason Dark Might in particular often got handsy with her (he and Deborah were around Anna the most), though arguably not the only one.

He at some point also cradled her face and called her a "special girl" to taunt the heroes before relocating with her, iirc. The reason she doesn't resist is because she's essentially under mind-control most of the time thanks to Deborah.

I wonder what Anna's life with the Gollinis and Dark Might must've been like if she was willing to place her trust in a random, very shady looking bruiser to free her. There's a lot of stuff going on in that movie that got pretty much sidelined/went unaddressed due to time constraints and it being a basic action-centered shonen.

Make of that what you will.

Grunge Teleri Con Report

So I attended ECCC for the first time and it was a delight! And while I once again failed to get any normal decent cosplay photos, I did get The Greatest Photo I Could Ever Ask For of my grunge Teleri cosplay.

But first, what the heck is a grunge Teleri cosplay, you ask? Well, ECCC has a grunge-themed party and I decided that I wanted to go as a grunge elf. Specifically, a Teleri (sea elf) from the Silmarillion who is still very bitter about the First Kinslaying. (And the other two.) (Thank you to @squirrelwrangler for the inspiration!) In the spirit of grunge, I DIY'd or shopped my closet for everything except the tshirt. Almost none of the details can be seen in this photo, but it doesn't matter...

...because the grunge party was the same night as the Cosplay Championships, where Prince of Snark Cosplay won the grand prize...

TFOTA update (major spoilers for book 1): chapter 20

this book just keeps throwing plot twist after plot twist after plot twist on me and I'm falling for every.single.one. gosh. first jude kidnaps the human girl to free her into the mortal world, and she drowns herself? Then Dain yells at Jude for the thing I WASN'T expecting (stabbing Valerian) and then Jude fucking KILLS Valerian not even a few minutes later, then buried the body in HER house, then Balekin gatecrashes and slaughters almost everyone in his fucking blood line in the matter of MINUTES. Madoc kills Dain?? And ghost kills Caelia?? Rhyia kills herself?? Taryn and Locke might secretly have an affair??

Jude feels pleasure in seeing Cardan miss out on the coronation bc he got drunk which is ironically the best thing he did bc he dodged a bullet?? Now Cardan is the only hope elfhame has, which is also super ironic since Jude was marvelling over how glad she was that cardan wasn't ever going to be king in the first few chapters.

How do you make a yuanlingpao/yuanlingshan? Especially a Ming Dynasty style one at that?

Find out which exact style/effect (occasion, time period, gender of wearer, type - yuanlingpao and yuanlingshan are very different pieces of clothing) you like.

Find out the measurements and the line art of the original artifact.

Make a mock up and put it on you to see if you like the measurement.

Make adjustment before dedicating to the final piece.

There is a post on Newhanfu on making generic Ming-style yuanlingpao and yuanlingshao. I don't have an account so I don't know how is it like behind the wall, but based on the measurements given I think they are on the fitted side.

This little sample is 100% milkweed silk. I'm using a very small--albeit not very light--supported spindle. I just wanted to try out this tiny art spindle I carved like months ago. It's a little shorter than a sharpie, works great, probably will work even better when the tips of my thumbs aren't super bruised from the whittling (has been long enough the callouses were gone). Might also try with my wheel at some point although it sounds like a nightmare to me. I don't have any cotton spinning tools, so supported spindles are probably the best for now.

Problem mostly is that it's very similar to spinning cotton, because ive never been any good at spinning cotton. So I might need to practice cotton instead, as I have more of it.

But this is a small sample of two ply (with a wool single as a leader). I tried spinning it with variable amounts of twist--it didn't tolerate a ton before snapping, but held together fine at a medium twist. I don't know about strength yet. But it's so soft and glittery and warm--just holding it in the fingertips makes it hot. It's pretty fantastic at the moment. We'll see how it ages.
